![]() ![]() ![]() They have publicly criticized recent congressional efforts to reform the welfare system by decentralizing it and removing its perverse incentives. In spite of this clear warning, the United States Catholic Bishops remain staunch defenders of a statist approach to social problems. This “leads to a loss of human energies and an inordinate increase of public agencies which are dominated more by bureaucratic ways of thinking than by concern for serving their clients and which are accompanied by an enormous increase in spending.” The Pontiff wrote that the Welfare State was contradicting the principle of subsidiarity by intervening directly and depriving society of its responsibility. This is why Pope John Paul II took the “social assistance state” to task in his 1991 encyclical Centesimus Annus. It conflicts with the passion for centralization and bureaucracy characteristic of the Welfare State. This principle is a bulwark of limited government and personal freedom. In other words, any activity which can be performed by a more decentralized entity should be. This tenet holds that nothing should be done by a larger and more complex organization which can be done as well by a smaller and simpler organization. Inclusiveness is also the ability of a community to include all its members and avoid excluding any of them.One of the key principles of Catholic social thought is known as the principle of subsidiarity.That means that inclusion uses diversity as a resource to enhance inclusiveness.Inclusiveness is the outcome of the process of inclusion. this diversity of people, is seen as a strength which helps to create a culture that links and empowers individuals to enable them to fully contribute and participate. Inclusion can also be understood as a process that tries to involve and value differences between individuals and groups. ![]() For example, it means to provide elevators and staircases so that wheelchair drivers can enter the same building facility. This means that inclusion is strongly linked to the concept of equal opportunities to include as many people as possible to participate or be represented. “the idea that everyone should be able to use the same facilities, take part in the same activities, and enjoy the same experiences, including people who have a disability or disadvantage” More specifically related to social sciences, inclusion is understood as “the act of including someone or something as part of a group, list, etc. The Cambridge dictionary defines inclusion as Are different interpretations of results conceivable? What research design will contribute new insights? How is diversity integrated into concepts and models? What does the literature reveal in terms of diversity?
